Matthew Syed Consulting is a boutique psychology-based consulting company, specialising in leadership development focused on developing growth mindsets and diverse thinking. We work with leaders at all levels within organisations, across a range of industries, to develop growth mindsets, diverse thinking, and learning cultures.

Matthew Syed, co-founder of the company, is an author and journalist who works with The Times, the BBC, and Sky News. His books include Rebel Ideas, Black Box Thinking, and Bounce amongst others. His podcasts – Sideways and Talent Takes Practice – also expand on the concepts of growth mindset and diverse thinking.

We work with an impressive list of both private and public sectors organisations, helping their leaders to change how they think, and what they say and do to change cultures and increase performance as individuals and for their teams. We help them tackle real-world challenges, using current research-based practices to create change.

The Role

The team are looking for experienced, commercially-focused workshop facilitators to engage on an ad-hoc basis. Facilitators are typically self-employed or run their own businesses.

Deliverables

Facilitators may be engaged to deliver the following types of leadership development activities:

  • Virtual workshops that range from 90 minutes to 2 hours
  • Face to face workshops ranging from a few hours to full days
  • Virtual broadcasts, usually 60 minute sessions
  • Individual or group coaching (if applicants possess formal coaching qualifications)

  • Psychological safety

All content and materials are prepared by the core Matthew Syed Consulting team and provided to Facilitators to deliver.

Workshops are designed to provide participants with information about key concepts, real-world examples, and techniques and methods to put the concepts into practice in their day-to-day work. The objective is to provide leaders with new behaviours and practices that can help them do things differently and improve performance.

Typical Audience

Workshop participants typically consist of senior leaders from across a range of industries such as finance, technology, law, healthcare, and public sector. Clients are primarily based in the UK, but may also include international audiences. Workshops may include 10 people to around 100 people. Broadcast sessions may include several hundred people.

Person Requirements

We are looking for people with the following experience, knowledge, skills and competencies:

Experience
  • 5+ years of workshop facilitation experience
  • Experience working with a range of industries
  • Experience working with the most senior leaders in organisations
  • Desired – experience having worked in a senior leadership role in an organisation
  • Desired – experience working with psychometric assessment outputs
Knowledge and Interests
  • A basic understanding of growth mindset principles
  • Interest in psychology, leadership development, learning and development
Skills
  • Proficient with common video conferencing platforms. E.g., Zoom, MS Teams, Webex
Competencies
  • Commercial awareness: Understands how businesses and organisations work. Comfortable working with senior leaders. Is able to adapt approach and communication to address problems and challenges relevant to this group.
  • Results focus: Is reliable and professional. Easy to work with. Approaches work in an organised way. Takes responsibility for completing work to a high standard. Strong attention to detail. Focused on generating the best outcomes for clients.
  • Learning: Curious, open to learning, not afraid to ask questions, open to and acts on feedback. Gets up to speed with new tasks quickly and learns new information, concepts and ideas quickly.
  • Presentation skills: Projects credibility and confidence. Speaks clearly and fluently. Explains information and key points persuasively. Comes across as knowledgeable.
