Psychological Safety

This is the belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes. This is a mandatory when building a Growth Mindset culture. Creating an environment of psychological safety enables higher levels of employee engagement, increases motivation of people to tackle difficult problems and enables more learning opportunities on an individual, team and organisation level.

Avoiding The Blame Cycle

When you rush to blame, even if you think you’re doing something decisive, you lose 2 things. Firstly, blame and criticism reliably escalate conflict, leading to defensiveness, and eventually to disengagement. You unintentionally create a fearful workforce – which will then result in cover-up, no learning, systemic issues remain, mistakes will keep happening.  As a result, secondly you lose the opportunity to look at your systems and the opportunity to deal with a systemic issue. We believe that a powerful alternative to blame is curiosity.

Seeking & Learning From Feedback

Actively seeking out the opinions of others is critical to achieving a Growth Mindset. But how often do we do this? And how do we respond to feedback when it is not what we want to hear? Most of the time our instinct is to self-protect.  But if we can be in the right mindset to probe, stand back, regroup and think of feedback as a learning opportunity, then we will be in a stronger position to continually improve.  Remember, feedback is always better than apathy!
