Objective

The bank believes that its success relies on the talent, skills and commitment of its employees. Operating in the highly competitive financial services market, BNY Mellon wanted to further improve performance and increase innovation and agility across its EMEA businesses. To help achieve this, it sought to strengthen its culture of innovation and provide greater opportunities for personal growth and career development.

Solution

BNY Mellon partnered with Matthew Syed Consulting to develop a growth mindset across its EMEA operations. Management workshops followed an initial keynote speech to launch the programme, and the Mindset Advantage survey was completed by 300 staff to understand current attitudes and identify obstacles to growth. The consultancy then developed a tailored programme and bespoke content, enabling BNY Mellon to roll out an EMEA-wide roadshow of workshops to embed growth mindset at a business, team and personal level.

Outcomes

BNY Mellon staff have embraced growth mindset, driving change at both an individual and corporate level. Mindset Advantage reports are being used by staff to set personal development goals while the bank’s EMEA Operating Council is promoting growth mindset amongst its most senior managers and helping to ensure it is cascaded throughout the organisation. As well as stimulating greater development at an individual level and improving staff engagement, this is triggering systemic changes that will help BNY Mellon increase business agility and innovation and further improve the performance of its business across EMEA.
