Matthew Syed Consulting is a boutique psychology-based consulting company, specialising in leadership development focused on growth mindset, cognitive diversity and psychological safety. Matthew Syed, co-founder of the company, is an author and journalist who works with The Times, the BBC, and Sky News. His books include Rebel Ideas, Black Box Thinking, and Bounce amongst others. His podcasts – Sideways and Talent Takes Practice – also expand on the concepts of growth mindset and diverse thinking.

The Role

The team are looking for a Client Solutions Associate to join the team on a full-time basis. This role is a client-facing role focussed on increasing sales through (a) winning business with new clients, as well as (b) increasing product utilisation with existing clients. The role is primarily office-based in southwest London, with the option to work remotely at times as well as some travel within the UK to engage with clients.

The primary responsibilities for this role are:

New Business – Pre-Sales Support:
Work closely with the Sales Team to support the end-to-end sales journey.

  • Respond to inbound enquiries to qualify need and set up virtual meetings.
  • Conduct initial background research into clients and create an initial client profile.
  • Work with the Sales Lead to prepare introductory client decks to be shared in initial client meetings.
  • Attend client calls with Sales Lead as part of the pre-sales process to observe, engage, record notes, qualify need and summarise actions.
  • Lead follow-up from client meetings, including capturing notes and compiling relevant follow-up information to send to clients.
  • Draft initial proposals using appropriate templates.
  • Update and maintain precise customer records in Salesforce while streamlining the sales pipeline.
  • Work with the Project Managers to ensure a smooth transition of new business requirements between sales and delivery. This includes updating the new client profile documents and client account data in Salesforce, plus creating the workshop design document.

Existing Clients – Pre-Sales Support:
Work with Account Managers to increase product utilisation for our top accounts.

  • Work with each Account Manager to create client profiles for existing top clients to feed into account management process. This should include things like products / services, values, culture, financial performance, quarterly earnings announcements, social media updates. Provide updates to sales, account management, marketing.
  • Support Account Managers on creation of new proposals for upsell / cross sell opportunities.
  • Administer subscription clients and issue accreditation certificates, related to in-house accreditation.

Client Intelligence and Sales Collateral:
Work with the Product Marketing Manager to increase brand awareness of our products and services.

  • Gather and maintain market intelligence for target markets, including analysis of competitor activities, key market trends, pricing strategies, and conducting SWOT analyses to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Using your exposure to clients and prospects in a pre-sales context, work closely with Marketing to update, create and amend sales collateral that is customer centric.
  • Through regular conversations with prospects, be ready to report back on trends you’re seeing related to industry, competition and market changes, and contribute to discussion on how we can respond to these effectively.
  • Support the Marketing and Psychology teams in creating and maintaining standard sales collateral for all key products and services. Collateral may include: fact sheets, descriptions of key products, flyers, pitch decks, proposal templates.

Sales Data Analysis:
Engage in comprehensive sales data analysis, examining trends to offer actionable insights and recommendations.

  • Evaluate sales pipelines, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement to optimise efficiency.
  • Following delivery of client workshops, write up client workshop outputs to share with the project manager and capture NPS ratings plus key learnings.

Person Requirements

We are looking for someone with the following background, knowledge, skills and competencies:

Educational Qualifications/ Experience

  • BA hons Degree Graduate in Business Studies, Psychology, Social Science or related subjects
  • Some experience in professional services, ideally Leadership Development / HR
  • Experience working in a role with a commercial focus (desirable)

Knowledge and Interests

  • Knowledge and / or interest of sales processes
  • An interest in applied psychology (desirable)

Skills

  • Salesforce – proficient (desirable)
  • Microsoft Office Suite – proficient
